Project Title – Give a Smile with a Meal and a Gift

Fightinh Hunger

Project Description:

Continuing the Club’s Leadership Transition to the 2022-2023 Rotary year and celebrating Liberia’s 175th Independence Anniversary, three Hundred (300) disadvantaged children from poverty-stricken homes were beneficiaries of the Rotary Club of Sinkor’s Service Project – GIVE a SMILE with a Meal and Gift. The event was held on Saturday, 31 July 2022, and each child received a protein, carbohydrate, and vegetable-rich meal comprised of Liberia’s staple food (rice) with cupcakes for dessert. Each child also received a package that included a gift bag with assorted items–copy books, pencils, pens, Suntop drink, and biscuits.

The project supports and collaborates with RESCUE ABANDONED & CHILDREN IN HARDSHIP (REACH), a not-for-profit organization operating a weekly Feeding Station in an informal settlement called Nakley Town, Off Somalia Drive. The children depend on the REACH Feeding Center for weekend meals. The Feeding Center caters to approximately 300 children every Saturday. The Center is primarily supported by food items and cash donations from individuals and other charity organizations.

COMMUNITY NEEDS, PROJECT IMPACT, AND SUSTAINABILITY

Community assessment: How the project team learned about community needs

Our President, Decontee King-Sackie, is a sponsor of one of the disadvantaged children under the foster care of REACH.  REACH has a very active social media (FaceBook) page featuring these weekly feeding programs at the Feeding Center. It just touches your heart when you see the needs of the children.

Project impact: How the project will help the community after the project ends

Sustainability: How the benefits of the project will continue afterward
