The District Governor (DG) of Rotary International Mr. Sunny O.
Akoupha, paid a working visit to Rotary Clubs in Liberia from
August 7 – 12, 2022. District 9101 is comprised of ten countries in
West Africa.
During his visit, DG Sunny inspected several projects sponsored by Rotary International in collaboration with international and local partners. The projects visited include the Monrovia Football Academy, an Oxygen Plant at ELWA hospital, a hand pump at a local school in Gbarnga, among others.
The visit to Liberia also afforded the DG the opportunity to pay courtesy calls on the Resident Representative of World Health
Organization (WHO), Dr. Clement Lugala Peter, the Vice President of Liberia, Madam Jewel Howard Taylor, the Minister of Health, Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah and the head of WASH Commission, Ambassador Bobby Whitfield.
The Presidents of Rotary Clubs in Liberia and their Officers and Directors, held a business meeting with the DG where he outlined his plan for the District. DG Sunny said in most West African countries, modern public toilets are nonexistent and this situation poses lots of inconveniences to citizens traveling in the city.

He therefore informed the Clubs that during Rotary Year 2022 – 2023, Rotary International, through District 9101, will construct state-of-the-art public toilets in major cities in countries in the District, including Liberia.
He said these toilets will be placed at schools, car parks, hospitals and toll gates. The project is expected to be implemented in partnership with World Vision International.
To climax DG Sunny’s visit to Liberia, a joint club assembly of officers and members of the three Rotary Clubs in Liberia; Rotary Club of Monrovia, Rotary Club of Sinkor and Rotary Club of Gbarnga, was held at a local restaurant in Sinkor. Rotarians attending the assembly were motivated by DG Sunny’s enthusiasm about projects in
Liberia. He encouraged Rotarians to do more in Liberia to serve humanity, as the theme for Rotary Year 2022-2023 depicts “Imagine Rotary”.
Rotary Clubs in Liberia intend to undertake a joint project in Maternal and Child Health at Bong County health center. The Presidents of Rotary Clubs in Liberia are: Mrs. Mai Urey, President- Rotary Club of Monrovia, Mrs. Decontee T. King-Sackie, President-Rotary Club of Sinkor and Mrs. Relhetta J. Wreh, President-Rotary Club of Gbarnga. Mrs. Nancy Deline Freeman is the Assistant Governor. She oversees club activities in Liberia and reports to the District Governor.
